Let me just tell you, I have a special place in my heart for mommy and me sessions. It may be because I was an only child for 9 years and subsequently was really close with my mother. My earliest and fondest memories of course are with her. From dancing in the living room to Ice Ice Baby on repeat to cooking our way through an entire cookbook, my mother has molded and shaped me in every way possible. I have shoe boxes full of pictures and memories of us. The same squinty eyes, the same full cheeks and the same white blonde hair. I was her mini me and she was my everything. So if I can capture even an ounce of what me and my mother shared, I’d say I’d be capturing something special.
These two people I’m about to share with you are a very special pair!
Lisa and I work together at my day job (you may not know, but I’m a full time HR Coordinator by day!) and when we met 3 years ago, we immediately clicked. I’d say within a week or two, we became the girls in the office that spent way too much time ordering a birthday cake, over organizing office supplies with obnoxious labels and taking the office Easter egg hunt to another level. We plan holiday office parties together, eat lunch together every day and encourage one another to do one more push up when the other one wants to give up during our evening workouts. I just can’t imagine a typical day at the office without seeing her there. So I guess you can say, she’s my normal, my supporter, and my friend.
Every year, Lisa and her son, Landon, take photos together for the holidays. You may even remember the shoot that we did last year. I love that they do this and I think every parent should have a shoot with their kids at least once a year! I just want to capture those sweet quiet moments, those silly little giggles, and the twinkle they have in their eye. And the faces….kids make the silliest and funniest faces! Especially Landon. He is so full of life and energy and is just plain goofy! Our sessions are always full of fun and laughter.
We lucked out and managed to have a clear, warm evening with beautiful light in between all of the rain and re-scheduled shoots that plagued my fall sessions. It was simple and enjoyable which made getting some great shots pretty easy! I can’t wait for our next session!
When Lisa got out of her car, we both looked at each other and just laughed. We were basically wearing the same thing! This actually happens a lot more often than you would think…what can I say? We both have good taste! Landon thought it was hilarious we were wearing the same outfits and said that he wanted to take a picture of us. I don’t know why, but I handed my camera (which cost more than my first car) to a 5 year old and told him to point and shoot! The camera kept tilting down (it is quite heavy for child) so we kept squatting down with it, haha. I must say though, he took a great photo! And I really love this image of me and Lisa. It sums us up perfectly :)
